Seasonal Ingredient of the Week: Pears

A moment of appreciation for the humble pear; carrying us through winter from the last of the figs to the first berries of the year. And versatile it is - we tend to poach or grill, but you can also stew, roast, caramelise and sauté. It makes the perfect partner to porridge and pies, as well as cakes (flourless chocolate and pear cake is a Christmas tradition we'll never let go off) and savoury dishes - fresh, sliced pear through a heavy-on-the-greens salad is a refreshing change after a heavy festive period.
